The design of the contemporary domestic showering system of the ancient tile, glass, and metal variety is none other than an industrial "cooling tower" in disguise.......Given that "cooling towers" are amazingly efficient at cooling down water, it is a present day environmental disaster, with respect to the efficient use of resources, that the contemporary shower mimics the operation of a cooling tower that is used to cool water in commercial refrigeration ....
Picking soap up from a shower base or standing away from the shower head demonstrates this "cooling effect", and you won't need further explanation to demonstrate that this is so absolutely so in a typically primitive shower environment...Furthermore, the more finely and violently the droplets are atomised, the more marked the effect of cooling becomes..Of course this is not the "only" catastrophic mistake with respect to the construction of a common shower.
Atomising droplets of water just cools the water resulting in a huge increase in carbon emissions because even more hot water is required to do the same heating job. For example, more hot water is required to deliver the same amount of heat to the occupant. Or another way of putting it is that, if heat is being lost throughout the showering environment, then it needs to be replaced by using additional hot water to maintain the desired temperature.
This can be a huge advantage (finely atomising the hot water) in certain showering systems which will be described on the site very shortly, but in a primitive shower stall, if one must be used, the larger the droplets, the more efficient the shower rose will be at delivering heat, The droplets need to be delivered gently and not violently so that the cooling effect effect occurring to the droplets of water is diminished.
The second most important blunder, that coincides at a time where contemporary civilisation that has been "mass marketed" a pathological pseudo-scientific obsession with shower heads, particularly concerns the structural materials used in the shower cabin or stall itself.
The following explanation will have to suffice for the moment because there are many possible ways of explaining this and the light of reason will not happen over overnight. The hypnotism of life is a strong force........
So with respect to the "second blunder", one explanation goes like this...... If we take a common household fridge and replace the lining of the fridge even still leaving the insulation intact, (A very clever composite consisting of a very thin laminate usually a characteristic white plastic glued or vacuum formed to high density styrene insulation) and replace this "thin layer", with a "thick layer" of tiles, bricks, and concrete instead...... an inkling of this absurd venture may become apparent.........Who would do such a thing?......Who would line the interior of a fridge with concrete, bricks tiles, and the like????...... To make matters considerably worse, who would also place an extraction fan on it as well!!??......They would be locked up!! ........."carbon emission terrorists"................for creating weapons of mass energy proliferation?....Possibly even interrogated in a high security prison.....considered mad.........beyond help........!!!!!!
The scenario portrayed briefly here, is certainly not just "roses, roses" and consequentially very very serious.
Seeing we are describing some extremely evil fridge science, why stop here??..... lets make it really, really, really, evil and put a nice thick coloured concrete base in it as well to make the fridge work even harder and use even more energy and become even more "thermally sluggish".........
And so......The evolution of the common household shower took place at a time when the destruction of energy contained safely in resources was "borrowed" from the environment quite relentlessly........ An "energy blind spot" quite naturally developed with respect to the domestic shower, and the more so because heating up the great outdoors, concrete, tiles, steaming up mirrors, creating perfect conditions for mold and bacteria to grow etc is still cheap relatively.
With a marketed dollar driven pathological obsescion with shower heads, who would suspect energy going into concrete tiles the great outdoors at such an allarming rate.....perfect ignorance on a grand scale.
Furthermore in the steamy isolation of the exhaust gases coming from the water heater or the coal fired power station, no hint is given of the pollution or CO2 emissions outside.
...."The absurd example of lining "the inside" of a household fridge with the same materials used to line a domestic shower is a very good one".
It does not take a "brilliant mind" to deduce from this, that the modified fridge would have to work considerably harder to arrive at a working temperature just like a primitive showering system "still does"........How much hot water does it take to warm up about three wheel barrow loads of tiles and the like that comprises the typical "domestic" shower?....Quite a lot!!..More than 90% of the thermal energy available in the hot water when heat extracted out through the exhaust fan is taken into consideration.
The evil concreted and tiled fridge that has just been described will need to work much harder to get anywhere, with respect to bringing about any change in temperature. Food and beer or other goes in a fridge, and not an additional bunch of ancient Grecco Roman history, metal, and other historical thermal masses. We are very lucky indeed that fridges and freezers have adopted the removal as far as possible of additional thermal mass and kept the interior lining as thin as possible so that it can be as thermally responsive as is possible, and to reduce energy requirements..
And so dear reader........The out come of this simple present day evil accounts for an output of untold mega-tons of carbon emission and wasted water.................................How can any shower reach operating temperature efficiently and quickly if it has been fully laden with tiles, concrete, glass, and the other "thermal masses"????...This article does not offer the solutions, only the showering "dark side", or the "problems". Only to give an taste of the absurdity of it. The solutions, even though they should almost be apparent will be offered up shortly, and this material will be pushed further into the back pages and relegated to a site specialising in this type of information called showerscience.com.
A useful F.A.Q. section is being developed containing important information in a rapidly digestible form.
Currently showerscience.com, watersavingshower.com, energysavingshower.com & hybridshower.com are all the same site........you will be able to catch a glimpse of the first true hybrid showering system over the coming weeks, with a brief preliminary explanation. These hybrid showering systems will benchmark all future showering systems in our world. We assure you of that! You will be impressed with the specifications.
It is however hoped you will also slowly be able to see the terror of the situation....So that you too will be able to, even if only in part, "see what we see....and feel what we feel"......Every day and night, throughout the world, households are warming up megatons of concrete, tiles, bricks, and the great outdoors using an equivalent scale of hot water created mostly through the destruction of energy. Only a small fraction of the available heat stored in the hot water is actually effectively delivered to the occupant, and practically none if the occupant "is not" standing directly under the shower head up close.
The rest is very efficiently delivered to the overhead extraction fan, tiles, concrete, metal fixtures, glass, and cold sewage in underground pipes.........
Of course!, this means much more water is used, energy, and soap. Furthermore, if one is trying to have a "hot shower", a lot more "time" is wasted is a well.
Teenagers that require a really hot shower, to assist the removal of sebaceous secretions in that very active stage of growth, have to empty an entire tank to have a proper hot shower in one of these primitive showering system monsters...........They should not wear the blame for having been handed down such a disgustingly poor apparatus, nor should they miss out on long hot showers, "required" by youth, because of silly shower head technology.
This site will gradually unravel a very coherent picture of what is happening in that mini Hiroshima we usually call the domestic shower. We would like to think you care about your self preservation and of course that of your children and their future world enough to come back regularly and often over the coming months while we bring to you more of what this site has to offer. Or, albeit simply to find out how to get a vastly superior, plain better shower system.
